We are North London's quarterly literary magazine, rooted in the communities, cultures, and contradictions of the road that gives us our name.
The Green Lanes Review was born from a simple observation: one of London's most diverse and vibrant streets had no literary voice to call its own. Stretching from the bustle of Harringay to the quiet edges of Enfield, Green Lanes is a place where languages mingle over fresh bread, where old histories are painted over in bright graffiti, and where the personal meets the political in the most everyday moments.
Founded in 2024 by a collective of local writers, artists, and community members, we set out to create a magazine that could hold both beauty and grit; that believes the stories of one street can speak to the world; and that provides a space where local voices, diverse cultures, and literary craft meet.
Each quarterly issue blends original poetry, short fiction, photography, essays, and local history, alongside commentary on the challenges and joys of urban life. We cover topics from the politics of allotments to the poetry of street corners, from the legacy of migration to the role of art in times of change.
We believe literature belongs to everyone. Our magazine is by and for our community, celebrating the voices that make North London unique.
While our lens is local, our scope is global. We connect the lived experience of North London to wider questions about community, creativity, and the future of our cities.
We make literature accessible through free online reading, community workshops, and by publishing writers at every stage of their journey.
The Green Lanes Review is run by a dedicated team of volunteers who live, work, and create in North London.
A poet and community organizer who has called Green Lanes home for over a decade. Maya believes in the power of local stories to speak to universal truths.
A short story writer and former teacher whose work has appeared in several literary magazines. David is passionate about nurturing new voices in fiction.
A journalist and local historian who documents the changing face of North London. Elena coordinates our community workshops and events.
A graphic designer and photographer who captures the visual essence of our neighborhood. James ensures each issue is as beautiful as it is meaningful.
We believe that everyone has a story worth telling. Whether you're an established writer or sharing your work for the first time, we're committed to providing a platform for diverse voices and perspectives.
The streets we walk, the shops we visit, the neighbors we meet – these everyday experiences are the raw material of great literature. We celebrate the profound in the mundane and find the universal in the local.
We're not driven by profit but by passion for our community. All our content is freely available online, and we reinvest any funds back into supporting local writers and artists.
In an increasingly fragmented world, we believe literature has the power to build bridges between communities, generations, and cultures. Every story we publish is an invitation to understand someone else's experience.
The Green Lanes Review is more than a magazine – it's a community. There are many ways to be part of our story.
